How to Add Chapter Markers on YouTube

May 2020… YouTube introduced Chapter Markers.

We can now add chapters to our YouTube videos, just like what the DVD menu chapter selection can do. Chapters break up your video into sections.

  • Viewers can choose which part of the video they want to watch.
  • We can present a “table of content” for our video as a quick summary.

How to add chapter markers on a YouTube video?

To turn on chapters for your video:

  1. Sign in to your YouTube account.
  2. Go to your video you want to edit.
  3. Select “EDIT VIDEO” under the video.
  4. Go to the “Description” box of the “Add details” page,
  5. Add a list of timestamps and titles.

See the example I have created on one of my video… https://youtu.be/nRDPlZ0YZjI

Minimum Requirement

Ensure to do the following when setting up the chapters.

  • Make sure that the first timestamp starts with 00:00.
  • Type the timestamp followed by a short title.
  • Your video should have at least three timestamps.
  • Timestamps must be listed in ascending order.
  • The minimum length for video chapters is 10 seconds.
