Yolobox Ultra Multicam Replay

Live streaming with multiple cameras just got a whole lot more exciting! If you’ve ever wished you could rewind a key moment in your stream and show it from various angles, Multicam Replay is about to become your favorite tool. It’s perfect for sports highlights, dance competitions, detailed demos – anything where that “Whoa, did you see that?” moment needs a closer look.

Setting Up Multicam Replay

  • Access the Replay Panel by tapping on the icon resembling a triangle play button encircled by a reverse arrow.
  • Select Replay Sources: Typically, I opt for all camera input sources and exclude computer display sources and the final mixed Program output.
  • Go back to the Replay panel and activate Replay.

There is a lot more we can do inside the Replay Settings, but at default, it is good to go.

Replay Now

Pretend a special moment just happened and I want to replay that moment. All I have to do is hit the Replay button. A message will pop up asking me whether I want to play it now or use the replay later. Tapping on “Play Now” plays back from the first camera, then the second camera, the third camera, and the fourth camera. Once it’s done, it goes back to the currently selected live source.

During the replay, the REPLAY button changes to the EXIT REPLAY button, indicating we can exit the replay at any time and return to the live source.

Customizing the Replays

I can add some bells and whistles to the replay by going into the Replay Settings.

  • First, there is the Replay Video Duration: the number of seconds before I hit the Replay button. I think the default of 10 seconds is too long. I like to set it to five seconds. This can be adjusted to playback anywhere from the last 1 second up to 59 seconds.
  • Next, I like to set my Replay Video Speed to 0.5x for slow motion. The replay speed can be adjusted to slow motion settings of 0.25x, 0.5x, or 0.75x. It is also possible to replay at normal or increased speeds of 1.0x, 1.5x, or 2.0x.
  • I’ll turn off the Replay Audio (to avoid weird slow-motion sounds!).
  • However, I will not enable Mute Other Audio Source During Replay so I can narrate live over them.
  • Inside the Replay Mode Preferences, the default is “always ask” whether to play now or use later. I prefer “always play now.”
  • I also want to overlay a Replay Logo so that my audience knows it’s a replay. (Logos aren’t provided, so I created a JPEG image and saved it to an SD card, then inserted that into the Ultra.) The logo will be displayed in the top left corner during replays.
  • The next option is interesting: Preset Intro/Outro. I can add an intro video to play before the replay. I’ve created a 3-second intro video and saved it on the SD card. I’ll use the same video for the outro.
  • Finally, there are the Transitions for the Intro and Outro. I enable this setting to add a FADE effect between the Intro/Outro and the replays.

Using Replays Later

During my regular live stream, I have the option to select from a list of previously recorded replays by going to the Replay panel. However, I find it difficult to distinguish which recording corresponds to which replay. It would be helpful if there was a thumbnail preview of each replay to help me identify them more easily.

The Yolobox Ultra is my everything-in-one portable live-streaming device.  It’s like a complete studio in one box that combines a video switcher, a recorder, a multiplatform 4K streaming encoder, and more.
